Enjoy your Easter Lilies, but keep them out of reach of your cat!Ê Beautiful Easter Lilies (Lilium longiflorum) can be lethal to your four-legged feline friend. Ingestion of just one leaf or flower can kill a cat! Depression, vomiting and loss of appetite occur within half an hour. Signs of kidney damage start in 48 hours, including severe depression, increased urination and dehydration. Death from kidney failure follows within five days. From 50 - 100% of cats poisoned by Easter Lilies will die Ñ there is no antidote! If you suspect your cat has eaten Easter Lily flowers or leaves Ñ contact your veterinarian immediately! Supportive treatment may be effective if started within six hours. For more information, contact your local veterinarian. The Saskatchewan Veterinary Medical Association wishes you and your pets a Happy Easter!
