The Manitoba PC government says the wheels are in motion for its Yes! North initiative designed to strengthen northern Manitoba’s economy.
Growth, Enterprise and Trade Minister Cliff Cullen and Justice Minister Heather Stefanson visited Thompson last Friday, June 17. They met with local government officials and the Thompson Chamber of Commerce to discuss ways to work in partnership.
“There are incredible opportunities for economic growth throughout northern Manitoba,” Cullen said. “In partnership with municipal officials, indigenous communities and business owners, we will be able to stimulate job creation and investment in the region.”
Stefanson also met with Thompson RCMP and justice officials to discuss the success of the Community Safety Officer (CSO) pilot program in that community. CSOs work to prevent crime and support police by enforcing certain provincial laws.
“We are committed to promoting innovation within the justice system to provide efficient and responsive service to all Manitobans,” she said.
