More than six decades of history came tumbling down yesterday as workers began demolishing the Willowpark Curling Club.
The Spruce Avenue landmark opened in 1950 but closed in October 2012 after club members were unable to afford needed repairs.
“We’ve been running since 1950 and you look on the walls there, there’s a lot of history there from the very beginning until today,” executive member Doug Dutcawich told The Reminder at the time of the closure.
The Willowpark closure left Flin Flon with just one curling rink, the Uptown Curling Club, for the first time since its early days.
The Willowpark building was owned by
the city.
