A woman is dead after a suspected impaired driving accident on Highway 135 near Jan Lake.

RCMP from Pelican Narrows detachment received a report around 8:45 p.m. August 29 of a single vehicle accident. After responding, police found a vehicle that had crashed about 16 kilometres from the junction of Highway 106 and Highway 135, not far north of the turnoff to Jan Lake between the resort community and Pelican Narrows.

Seven people were inside the vehicle, described as an SUV, when the vehicle crashed. Five passengers, ranging in age from 17 to 34, were sent to receive medical treatment in Pelican Narrows and Flin Flon with a myriad of injuries.

Police believe a 28-year-old female, unidentified by RCMP, was ejected from the vehicle during the crash. EMS pronounced the 28-year-old dead on scene.

The driver of the vehicle was not found at the scene, but was later discovered at the clinic in Pelican Narrows. The driver, an unidentified 22-year-old female, was arrested and faces a charge of impaired operation of a vehicle causing death. No court date for the charge has been publicly announced.

Highway 135 was shut down overnight by RCMP investigating the accident before being reopened in the morning.

Pelican Narrows RCMP are investigating the incident, along with an RCMP collision reconstruction team and the Saskatchewan Coroner's Service. The accident was one of four major accidents reported to Saskatchewan RCMP between August 29-30, three of which ended in fatalities.
