Winter seems to have snuck up on Flin Flon a bit earlier than recent years. According to Environment Canada, approximately 19 centimetres of snow fell on the community between Sunday night and yesterday afternoon. The resulting slush meant motorists quickly had to adjust to suddenly slippery roads, and pedestrians did their best to avoid getting their feet soaked. A number of residents dug out their shovels and snowblowers to clear their sidewalks of the white stuff, and plows were spotted in commercial parking lots. The snowfall in recent days appears to have come to a particular surprise to the wildlife who make spend their summers at the Hapnot Lake Duck Sanctuary. The chilly birds (pictured yesterday) were no doubt wishing they had been a step ahead of Mother Nature.
