Jonathon Naylor Editor Powerful winds temporarily robbed hundreds of Flin Flonners and all Creighton and Denare Beach residents of electricity early Wednesday. Manitoba Hydro spokesperson Glenn Schneider said the outage began at about 6:20 a.m. after winds broke an aerial marker on a power line in Flin Flon, causing the conductors to 'slap together.' He could not say where the incident occurred, but hydro workers were spotted near the Flin Flon General Hospital. Schneider said the outage effected about 425 customers in Flin Flon, while his counterpart at SaskPower, Shawn Silzer, said everyone in Creighton and Denare Beach was impacted. Restored Schneider said everyone's power was restored less than two hours later, at about 8:07 a.m. Silzer said a separate incident, also related to high winds, caused a broken crossarm on a power line serving La Ronge and Saskatchewan communities to its north. He said SaskPower deployed crews early Wednesday morning and expected to have the electricity restored before noon. Silzer was unable to say where the broken crossarm occurred. Neither Manitoba Hydro nor SaskPower offer discounts to customers when nature causes power outages.
