After a lengthy discussion held at Willowpark Wednesday, with at times heated arguments heard on both sides, a decision has been made to re-vote on the future of the Willowpark Curling Club. The over 100 members present heard reports from Bev Lantz and Marlene Gogol explaining why the last vote was held and, as Lantz stated, "if all these people had been at the meeting held on May 7, we wouldn't be in this mess now." Gogol gave information on the draft amalgamation plan and costs pertaining to each facility depending on future plans. Actually things are about as clear as mud because there are so many variables. So, after much debate, a motion was made to rescind the former motion and a motion was also made to strike the three options in the previous motion. Got that? A new motion was then made to have a vote to repair Willowpark so that curling can continue at that facility until such a time as the Communityplex gets the funding it require. The motion was passed unanimously to have another vote, the feeling being that the membership has received more information and should feel a little more secure in what they are voting on. One thing was made clear at Wednesday's meeting ? that the membership is divided. So this is where things stand. There will be another opportunity for all the members to re-vote/vote. The voting will take place from Friday, August 6 through to Friday, August 13 at Johnny's Confectionery. This will be a secret vote with a polling station set up. The following is the motion that will be voted on: Motion: "To repair Willowpark and to continue curling at the present facility. If the motion is defeated by this vote, the existing plan to amalgamate with Uptown Curling Club will go ahead and the decision of Willowpark being 'moth balled' for the 2004/05 season will stand." All members are encouraged to get out and vote. The vote will be by secret ballot and the membership will be informed of the outcome of the vote by way of the media ? newspaper and radio.
