Bill Murray lived it every single day in the 1993 film, but luckily Groundhog Day only comes once a year for the rest of us.
Today’s the day Manitoba Merv will decide if winter is here for another six weeks or if the province can look forward to an early spring.
If Merv, along with the rest of the world’s groundhog mascots, see their shadows today, then, the story goes, we will have another six weeks of winter.
If he doesn’t see his shadow because it’s a cloudy or foggy day, then spring is on its way!
Typically, Merv has predicted another six weeks of winter and based on the amount of snow in Flin Flon this year, it’s a safe bet he’ll be right again.
In Steinbach, Merv predicted an early spring last year.
He’ll make his prediction early this morning to determine the next six weeks of weather.
