A rising country music star with ties to Flin Flon still has a shot at being named the next "Nashville Star." George Canyon, who has performed at The Unwinder and married a Flin Flon girl, is in the final four of the USA Network's Nashville Star television program, described as Big Brother meets American Idol. After making it to the final four last Sunday, Canyon was given the honour of singing a duet with country superstar Trace Adkins. The final two episodes of Nashville Star are set to air this Sunday, April 25, at 7 p.m. on CMT, and the following Sunday at the same time. Canadians will be eligible to vote for Canyon as their favourite Nashville Star performer for the final time tomorrow night, Saturday, from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. (local time). Fans are encouraged to log onto www.usanetwork.com and vote up to ten times per e-mail address. The only Canadian finalist in the show, Canyon has inspired a campaign in which Canadians are encouraged to place red and white ribbons on their car, house or yard in his support. A professional musician for the past 14 years, Canyon met his future wife, Jennifer Fehr, daughter of Menno and Betty Fehr, while performing at The Unwinder in 1992. The couple now resides in Nova Scotia, where Canyon has steadily climbed up the country music hierarchy. Three singles from his self-titled debut album Ñ Her Everything, Enough Said, and Way Too Much Ñ charted in the Top 10 on CMT. The cowboy-hatted artist was one of more than 10,000 singers to audition for Nashville Star.4/23/2004
