Of the thousands upon thousands of people who have lived in Flin Flon over the decades, only 19 know what it’s like.
Since Flin Flon was incorporated in 1933, citizens have been served by a range of mayors, all of them men.
Some, like the late Gordon Mitchell, were buttoned-down types; others, like the late Jack Freedman, were never ones to back down from controversy.
Many are gone but not forgotten. Names like Mainwaring, Evans, Wright and Steventon are forever immortalized with streets and avenues in our city.
For his part, the popular Freedman posthumously had a bridge stretching over Bellevue Ave. christened in his honour.
Flin Flon could have a new mayor on Oct. 22 with incumbent George Fontaine facing off against former city councillor Cal Huntley. Robin James, considered a darkhorse candidate, is also in the race.
