Wi-fi woes deter camper

Mosquitoes may not be the only annoying obstacle to enticing guests to the Flin Flon Campground. Concerns over the reliability of wireless Internet at the campground threaten to keep at least one camper from returning.

Mosquitoes may not be the only annoying obstacle to enticing guests to the Flin Flon Campground.

Concerns over the reliability of wireless Internet at the campground threaten to keep at least one camper from returning.

“There are other places I can go that have Internet that works,” the camper, who asked that his name not be published, told The Reminder.

The camper says the Internet worked about half the time when he stayed at the campground in 2012, and was only marginally better in 2013.

“This year it’s been horrible,” he said.

Mayor George Fontaine was unaware of such concerns but says he and council will investigate the matter.

Wireless Internet is an increasingly sought-after feature at campgrounds, particularly for guests who travel long distances and need online access to pay bills and maintain communication.

The City of Flin Flon pays $64.75 a month to provide wireless Internet at the municipally owned campground.

The Flin Flon Campground was originally operated by the Flin Flon and District Chamber of Commerce. The city took over management functions in 1996.
