Where does Greg Selinger stand on nuclear waste storage?

Manitoba Premier Greg Selinger is being asked to reveal his position on the possibility of nuclear waste storage near Creighton.

Manitoba Premier Greg Selinger is being asked to reveal his position on the possibility of nuclear waste storage near Creighton.

Donovan (Timmers) Carter, an anti-nuclear activist, made the request in an open letter to the premier published in the Winnipeg Sun on Nov. 30.

“I appeal to you Premier Selinger to break your silence on this issue and clearly state the position of your government regarding this possible dump,” wrote Carter, “and your position on truck and train transportation of high level nuclear waste that would be streaming through Manitoba for many years to come.”

The Reminder asked Selinger’s communication team to provide a comment on the letter, but they had not responded as of press time.

Unlike Saskatchewan, Manitoba prohibits the storage of nuclear waste produced outside its borders.
