The Reminder has been named one of the top newspapers in Manitoba in our circulation category. We won third place in the Best in Class (general excellence) category at the recent 2013 Better Newspapers Competition put on by the Manitoba Community Newspapers Association. The Reminder also took first place in the Best Editorial Page category and third place in the Best Front Page category. 'I have always believed that small-town newspapers provide some of the best, most honest journalism available,' said Reminder editor Jonathon Naylor. 'The Reminder is honoured to be singled out among the many quality publications available to readers across this province.' For the judging, The Reminder was placed in the circulation category of 0-1,599. Our actual circulation sits at more than 4,000 a week when sales of the Monday, Wednesday and Friday editions are combined. We also have more than 2,000 readers per edition. 'We are particularly proud of these awards considering that we were competing entirely against weekly newspapers whose staff have far more time to prepare each edition,' Naylor said. 'Producing three editions a week can be challenging and would not be possible without the support of our readers.' In placing The Reminder third for Best in Class, judges ranked our local feature, opinion, advertising and classified advertising content as good as or better than any other paper in our circulation category. See 'Earned' on pg. Continued from pg. In taking first place in the Best Editorial Page category, The Reminder earned 82.5 of a possible 100 points from judges. Only 12 other newspapers in Manitoba, across all circulation categories, earned more points for their opinion content. 'Our editorial page has become one of the true selling features of The Reminder,' said Naylor. 'Introduced in 2005, it aims to foster intelligent thought and discussion on the local, provincial, national and international issues of the day. Many readers tell us that it is the first page they turn to.' The Reminder was the only northern Manitoba newspaper recognized in any Best in Class circulation category.
