Mayor Cal Huntley is offering his encouragement to Copper Reef Mining Corp. head Stephen Masson, who is optimistic about a mineral anomaly near Flin Flon.
“We’re all rooting for you,” Huntley told Masson, who appeared before council at their Tuesday meeting to speak about the Albert’s Lake anomaly.
Masson, a geologist, said the anomaly at this point “looks a lot like” the Trout Lake mine when it was discovered and he was with Granges Exploration, which found the mine. Trout Lake mine operated near Flin Flon for 30 years before closing in 2012.
Masson said drilling at Albert’s Lake would start next week or perhaps at the end of this week.
He told council that a new, large mine in Flin Flon would have a significant impact with the 777 and Reed mines approaching their final years.
Indicative of the current exploration climate, Masson said that while there used to be 20 active junior exploration companies in Flin Flon, there are now only two.
