Manitoba’s high-income seniors will not be eligible for a school property tax rebate under Premier Brian Pallister.
The previous NDP government promised to rebate seniors (65 and over) up to $470 a year regardless of income, and later pledged to increase the rebate to a maximum of $2,300 if re-elected.
But the new PC government says seniors whose households earn more than $63,500 a year will not be eligible for the refund.
Seniors earning less than $40,000 will receive the full rebate, while those earning between $40,000 and $63,500 will get a partial, income-tested rebate, according to the Winnipeg Free Press.
