A series of events are planned to observe International Women’s Week in Flin Flon, Five events will take place during the week between Mar. 5-8.

“We’re wanting to press for change,” said Barb Hopkinson, lead organizer for the week’s festivities.

“The event is to honour women and all they have achieved.”

The schedule kicks off with a musical gathering at 183 Merton Boulevard on Mar. 5, hosted by Ann Ross and Doug McGregor. A fitness class on Mar. 6 and a traditional healing workshop at the Flin Flon Yoga Studio and Wellness Centre on Mar. 7 will follow, as well as a self-care workshop.

The action wraps up on Mar. 8 with a bannock-in-a-bag event and ribbon skirt teaching held at St. Peter and Paul’s Church.

Hopkinson said the events are open to people of all ages, adding that organizers will ask for people to wear black at some events in honour of Time’s Up, an initiative to bring an end to sexual harassment and
gender-based violence.

“We want people to have awareness of the importance of women and the fact that we’re looking for equality,” said Hopkinson.
