Flin Flon took centre stage in a growing hobby over the weekend Ñ quilting. Over 400 quilt enthusiasts from as far away as Humboldt and Thompson attended the North Star Quilt Guild's 2004 Quilt Show, held Friday and Saturday at the R.H. Channing Auditorium. "It was exciting," said guild president Lorna Heuchert of the response. "I think the whole field of quilting is healthy and growing, and if you're interested in something, you will make an effort, when you know there's a show on, to go see it." Dozens of colourful quilts and wall hangings brightened the auditorium, hanging along the walls, laid out on tables, and strung from special stands. Over 160 quilts were put on public display for the first time, drawing plenty of praise from the predominantly female crowds who toured the auditorium. Some of the featured quilts will be entered into the Quilt Canada Show next month in Winnipeg. Others have been featured in The Canadian Quilter magazine. Heuchert said both the public and the guild members, who range in age from 18 to their 80s, deserve credit for making the show a success. "We were very pleased with the turnout, and we had a tremendous amount of work done by our guild members to set up the show and take it down," she commented. Here are the winners from the show: Favourite Unfinished Square - Marg Faktor People's Choice - Marg Harrower, "Flowers and Vines" (entry number 80) Redwork - Heather Dixon Blackford's Beauty Challenge 1.
