Elections Canada and Student Vote 2004 announced recently a joint initiative to provide students who have not yet reached voting age with the opportunity to experience the federal electoral process through a parallel election. Student Vote 2004 will enable schools across Canada to take part in a federal election simulation. Students will vote for candidates in their school's electoral district and assume the roles of deputy returning officers and poll clerks Ð key players in Canada's electoral process. Participating schools will receive free, non-partisan educational resources, including riding maps, posters and an instructional guide, which can be used during the campaign period to inform students about democracy and activate their interest in Canada's democratic process.
