Volunteers’ commitment inspires

Annual Celebrating Communities Gala also recognizes business leaders

Two separate standing ovations showed the appreciation toward some of the Flin Flon area’s busiest volunteers.

Lois (Bunny) Burke and Doug O’Brien were among the recipients of volunteer awards at last week’s 2014 Celebrating Communities Gala.

Between the two of them, they have sat on countless committees throughout the decades.

Gathered with friends, family and fellow award recipients, Burke and O’Brien received standing ovations from the roughly 100 guests in attendance at The Unwinder last Thursday, Oct. 16.

Joining them in receiving volunteer awards were Paul Garrett, Erik Nasselquist and Vasti Lamb of Creighton, Lisa Rogers of Denare Beach, and Tim Babcock and Kathy McCormick of Flin Flon.

Five area businesses – including one from Snow Lake – were also honoured for their dedication to the community.

Representatives from AJ’s Maintenance & Supply Ltd, Jim’s Custom Doors & Windows, MA Ironworks, Paws N’ Claws and Snow Lake Motor Inn all received certificates as well as pictures of local scenery.

This year’s Ambassador Award went to the Phantom Lake Golf Course. Dan Reagan accepted the award on behalf of the golf course.
