‘VMS expert’ joins Callinex Mines amid high hopes

A geologist with over 40 years of experience in the Flin Flon region has joined Callinex Mines, the exploration company announced Monday.

A geologist with over 40 years of experience in the Flin Flon region has joined Callinex Mines, the exploration company announced Monday.

James Pickell comes to Callinex’s technical team at a time when the company is encouraged by its work in the Flin Flon area.

“I look forward to working with the other members of Callinex’s technical team and being closely involved in Callinex’s future exploration programs,” Pickell said in a company news release.

Pickell said he thinks multiple areas within Callinex’s Pine Bay project, located east of Flin Flon, have the potential to host economic volcanogenic massive sulphide (VMS) deposits.

A “new discovery in the Sourdough area, combined with the intersected geology, provides optimism” for Callinex’s drill campaign this winter, he added.

Callinex described Pickell as a “renowned VMS expert.” He has over 40 years of experience in base metal exploration that led to the discovery of four producing mines in the Flin Flon region, the company said.

In 2001 Pickell received the Bill Dennis Prospector of the Year award from the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada. It recognized his instrumental role in the discovery of Flin Flon’s 777 Mine.

“Jim provides a unique perspective given his extensive experience in the area, which includes work at the Pine Bay and Sourdough areas of the company’s Pine Bay Project,” Callinex president and CEO Max Porterfield said in the release.

Pickell has reviewed all drill core from Callinex’s summer 2015 exploration program. With further contributions from him, the company plans to complete a 5,000- to 10,000-metre drill campaign in 2016.
