Jonathon Naylor Editor The search is on for someone to lead the fostering of economic opportunity across the Flin Flon region. Community Futures Greenstone is looking for a new economic development officer following the recent resignation of Joe Buie. Dave Kendall, a board member with Greenstone, said the plan is to begin formally advertising the position within about the next week. He said Greenstone hopes to conduct interviews with applicants by Nov. 1 and have someone in place by Jan. 1 at the latest. The economic development officer works to bolster the economies of Flin Flon, Cranberry Portage, Sherridon and Snow Lake. Duties include assisting community organizations with economic development, applying for grants and aiding entrepreneurs. Buie, who had held the position since 2001, has left to work for the government's Service Canada Centre on Main Street. Kendall commended Buie for his dedication and the 'wealth of experience' he brought to Greenstone. Based on Main Street above Pharmasave, Greenstone is funded by the federal government. About 80 per cent of the budget comes directly from the Treasury Board, with the rest from Western Economic Diversification, a federal agency.
