Eight incidents kept Flin Flon firefighters busy in August, city council learned Tuesday after reviewing the latest fire chief's report: Aug. 6, 4:36 PM: A caller stated that smoke could be seen coming from the rear of a home on Hapnot Street. Upon arrival, firefighters found a couch on fire inside the top apartment of the residence. It was removed from the residence, the fire was extinguished, and the suite was ventilated. The approximate dollar loss was $5,000. The fire chief and five firefighters responded. Aug. 15, 1:30 PM: A call was received stating that a vehicle was on fire at the south end of Church Street. Upon arrival, firefighters quickly extinguished the fire, which was contained to the vehicle. The RCMP were called to the scene as the fire was determined to be suspicious in nature. The approximate dollar loss was $1,000. The fire chief and 11 firefighters responded. Aug. 23, 8:55 AM: A call was received stating that the fire alarm system had activated inside Ruth Betts Community School. Upon arrival, firefighters determined the alarm was false and was caused by a technician working on the system. The on-call officer and seven firefighters responded. Aug. 23, 11 AM: A call was received stating that the fire alarm system had activated inside Ecole McIsaac School. Upon arrival, firefighters determined the alarm was false and caused by a technician working on the system. The on-call officer and six firefighters responded. Aug. 26, 1:20 PM: A call was received stating that a strong smell of oil was coming from inside a Main St. business. Upon arrival, firefighters determined the cause of the small was from a leaking oil tank in the basement. The on-call officer and one firefighter responded. Aug. 28, 4:35 PM: A call was received stating that there was a fire on Ross Street. Upon arrival, firefighters found a fire located directly above the electrical panel inside a three-suite apartment. The power was shut off at the panel and the fire was extinguished. The cause was determined by an electrician to be overloaded, overheated wiring. The on-call officer and nine firefighters responded. Aug. 28, 7:04 PM: A call was received stating the alarm system had been activated inside a business at the Flintoba Shopping Centre. Upon arrival, firefighters determined the cause of the alarm was from a small child who had pulled a pull station. The on-call officer and 11 firefighters responded. Aug. 29, 1:43 AM: A call was received stating there was a fire in front of a business at the Flintoba Shopping Centre. Upon arrival, firefighters determined a dry chemical fire extinguisher was set off inside the bus shelter, which looked like a fire to the 911 caller. The on-call officer and nine firefighters responded.
