Jonathon Naylor Editor Vandals have struck the Flin Flon-Creighton Walking Path, smashing through the seat of a concrete bench with a boulder. The damage was noticed early last Monday morning, Sept. 10, meaning it may have happened overnight Sunday. 'It's a real shame,' says Channa Senyk, treasurer of the volunteer committee that oversees the path. 'The Walking Path was built with donations from community organizations and furnished with benches and garbage cans through donated money, so it's a community path (that is) very well used. It's sad that this happens to ruin the enjoyment of those who appreciate it.' The bench, donated by the Rotary Club, sits overlooking Hudbay property near the eastern path entrance on the Flin Flon side. Senyk frowned as she surveyed the damage, with the boulder evidently used to break through the seat still sitting on the ground. Due to the weight of the rock, it's likely more than one person was involved in the vandalism. The matter has been reported to the RCMP. Senyk urges anyone who saw suspicious activity at the Walking Path around the time of the vandalism, to contact the RCMP. She also encourages the public to keep an eye out for any suspicious behaviour in the future. The committee will have to discuss options for potentially replacing the bench, Senyk said.
