One northern Manitoba teenager has died and another is seriously injured following an all-terrain vehicle accident in downtown Flin Flon over the weekend.
Shortly before 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 3, Flin Flon RCMP and first responders were dispatched to the scene of an accident at the intersection of Main Street and Third Avenue.
Police said their initial investigation indicated that the two males operating the ATV were travelling northbound on Main Street when they struck a Ford Fusion mid-size car eastbound on Third Avenue.
Both the 17-year-old male, of Flin Flon, and the 19-year-old male, of Thompson, were taken to hospital with severe, undetermined injuries.
RCMP confirmed yesterday that one of the males had succumbed to his injuries. They could not say which one.
The 54-year-old female driver of the Ford Fusion, from Flin Flon, was treated at the Flin Flon General Hospital for non-life threatening injuries. The 58-year-old passenger, also from Flin Flon, was not injured.
Police have not ruled out alcohol as a contributing factor. The driver and the passenger of the ATV were not wearing helmets.
A RCMP traffic analyst will be assisting with the ongoing investigation.
RCMP are asking anyone with information on this incident to contact the Flin Flon RCMP at 204-687-1423 or the anonymous Crime Stoppers line at 1-800-222-8477.
