Flin Flon RCMP have released four people without charge after receiving an apparently unfounded report that one of them was carrying a firearm.

Shortly after 6 pm last Thursday, March 10, police were notified of a male who allegedly had a gun. Officers located him with three other people near the Flin Flon Aboriginal Friendship Centre.

“Based on the information known at the time, and for obvious public and officer safety, the group was arrested and detained by officers,” said RCMP spokesman Sgt. Bert Paquet.

He said the suspect was “quite cooperative” with officers, who recovered no firearm of any sort.

It “appears the allegations of a gun were unfounded,” Paquet said. All four people were released without charge. No new developments had occurred as of Monday morning.

Paquet initially said charges could be potentially laid in relation to the unfounded report “depending on a few different factors.”

But speaking to The Reminder on Monday, he said he believed officers would instead “opt for education and awareness” in the matter.
