The bullet that recently struck a Cranberry Portage woman as she worked in her yard was fired from about two miles away, police said yesterday. The bullet, which struck the woman in the pelvis region on the afternoon of October 5, has been identified as a .303 British fired from a Lee Enfield rifle. Police believe the shooting was unintentional. Police said the bullet was moving "very slowly and was at the end of its trajectory" when it struck the woman. They believe the bullet was fired from the southeast portion of Cranberry Portage, near or on the southwestern portion of the First Cranberry Lake. Cranberry Portage RCMP continue to seek the public's assistance in identifying any hunters who may have been in or around the Cranberry Portage area on the afternoon of October 5. See 'Stable' P.# Con't from P.# At approximately 5:30 p.m. on that day, a 35-year-old woman was struck by a bullet in her pelvis region while working in her front yard on Railway Avenue. She was taken to the Flin Flon General Hospital and later transported to Winnipeg in stable condition. Police again urge hunters to be aware of what lies beyond their targets and remind them that high-powered rifle rounds are capable of traveling several miles. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information on Sunday's shooting is asked to contact Cranberry Portage RCMP at 472-3611 or Manitoba Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
