Change could be coming for the United Steel Workers (USW) in Flin Flon.
USW Local 7106 will hold an election April 30 to determine who will fill four seats on the union’s executive, including the post of union president.
All six people running are from the Flin Flon area. Incumbent local president Tom Davie will be challenged for his post by Alan Chatfield, while four contenders – Ron Breedon, Lori Guitard, Lisa Tower and Mitch Winterton – will run for three trustee spots.
The vote will be held on April 30. Election depots will be opened in nine locations, including Flin Flon, Snow Lake, Cranberry Portage, The Pas, Moose Lake, Reed Lake mine, Cormorant, Swan River and Neepawa.
About 1,300 card-carrying USW members within the local are eligible to vote in the election, with about 600 in the Flin Flon area alone. Hudbay employs most of the USW members in the region.
It is the first vote of any type held by the union since 2015, when a majority of members from USW Locals 7138 and 9338 voted to accept a contract to end a strike and restart work in Flin Flon and Snow Lake.
