Authorities were scratching their heads after an unidentified flying object was spotted in the skies over Flin Flon early this morning.
Dozens of astonished eye witnesses described the object as having at least eight moving parts with a beaming red light leading the way.
“I’d like to be able to say we know what it was, but we truthfully have no clue,” conceded Dr. Paul Pinchbeck, director of the Manitoba Sky Surveillance Agency (MSSA).
MSSA detected the object as it soared in from the north at 7:34 this morning. After 10 minutes of flying around, it turned and headed back north, out of radar range.
Dr. Pinchbeck said the object appeared to follow a pre-arranged flight plan that included stops at points of interest such as Flinty, the Smoke Stack and Whitney Forum.
“It’s as though this thing, whatever it was, wanted to do some sightseeing,” he said as he pored over reams of computer printouts. “It was as though it was enjoying itself just before a really busy night.”
The UFO left MSSA phones ringing off the hook as at least 80 residents frantically called to report what they had seen.
Adding a strange twist to the story is a mysterious fax the MSSA head office received just moments prior to detecting the object.
“Ho ho ho, don’t mind me, I’m just taking a breather and making sure the ol’ sleigh is good to go for tonight,” read the fax, signed only with the initials “K.K.”
The fax concluded with a message far easier for officials to comprehend: “Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night.”
