The walls inside Creighton’s Pizza are plastered with awards and articles. They chronicle the two decades of history the establishment has in the community.
Telis Keramydas, who owns the restaurant along with his wife Kaiti, said he was proud to have carved out a spot in the community.
“I cannot believe how many kids go to college, come home and the first thing they’ll say is ‘We have to stop at Creighton’s Pizza,’” he said.
“When they come home, they have to try Creighton’s Pizza again. They have to get that home taste again. I think we’re engraved in the brain.”
Keramydas said consistency is part of the reason they’ve been successful.
“The only thing that has changed is the amount of items on the menu,” he said.
“The pizza has been the same since the very first day we started. Same ingredients, same suppliers, same everything.”
Creighton’s Pizza was awarded with a plaque from the Flin Flon and Area Chamber of Commerce on Feb. 28, congratulating them for 20 years in business.
Celebrations took place throughout the month, including a big prize draw. The restaurant served specialty Greek food throughout February to honour the Keramydas’ heritage alongside the anniversary. The Greek cuisine proved to be popular with their customers.
“On the last day, we had a lot of people that said, we should keep doing that,” he said.
“It was a lot of work, making homemade meals for a big amount of people. So we're thinking that we might do something like that again in the future.”
Keramydas said he was considering setting aside one day a month and experimenting with different cuisines for that day.
Keramydas said he wasn’t thinking about lasting twenty years when he opened in 2000, moving from Thompson.
“We had a restaurant there that lasted less than nine months,” he said.
“When we came here, we were just trying to make a living. We stuck with it. We tried and we put a lot of hours - a lot of hours - and it worked out in the end.”
