Two people were arrested in Flin Flon Wednesday morning after crashing a stolen car into a pair of houses.

Creighton RCMP found a stolen vehicle in the community around 5:30 a.m. Jan. 17, but the vehicle escaped from police before they had a chance to catch it. Creighton RCMP advised Flin Flon RCMP of the stolen vehicle, which they suspected had gone toward Flin Flon.

RCMP found the vehicle in Creighton on White Street while on patrol, not far from the Creighton Sportex, but the vehicle got away from police when they tried pulling it over, doing what Manitoba RCMP described in a statement as fleeing "at a low rate of speed".

Police followed the vehicle onto Lake Street - a dead-end street near the former North of 53 Consumer's Co-op building uptown. Officers contained the area nearby and the vehicle stopped, but the driver then tried to escape again, hitting the accelerator. This time, the evasion didn't work - the car hit two nearby homes before getting stuck in a snowbank, leading to the two people inside being arrested.

The driver has been identified by police as Genevieve Sewap, 27 years old from Pelican Narrows. Sewap faces several charges, including flight from a peace officer, impaired operation of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, possession of property obtained by crime and two counts each of mischief under $5,000 and resisting arrest and was remanded into custody. The date of her first appearance I'm court is currently unknown.

The passenger has been identified as a 15-year-old female from Deschambault Lake and cannot be named as per conditions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act. She faces a charge of possession of property obtained by crime and has been released on promise to appear in court in Flin Flon.

None of the charges have been proven in court.
