Jonathon Naylor Editor 'Twas six weeks before Christmas when all through the park, all the people were stirring although it was dark. The new tree stood high amid Pioneer Square, ready to be lit up, when everyone would stare. Early Monday afternoon 90-plus folks gathered 'round, in search of whatever holiday joy there was to be found. Costing just over $27K this towering fake tree, was purchased by fundraising and grants secured by a volunteer committee. The Main Street Business Builders is their label of choice, and on this day downtown it was their chance to rejoice. Thanks to the funders came from committee head Dianne O'Brien, and the sincerity in her voice showed she wasn't lyin'. She presented the tree to City Hall and George Fontaine, and from heaping great thanks the mayor did not refrain. 'Great things' 'We have great committees bringing great things to our community,' he went on to state, for him the tree's splendor sure highly did rate. O'Brien thanked the committee's Randy Daneliuk, who put in many hours to find a tree and not rely on luck. 'He never stopped trying to get a better tree,' O'Brien told the crowd, 'to celebrate Christmas in our community.' O'Brien also commended the city's Rick Bacon, whose hours of research into a suitable tree he was not at all fakin'. O'Brien said the donated tree will save the city cash, for never again will they have to cut down a timber from Mother Nature's stash. The new tree brings Flin Flon a 'simple way to celebrate' she did tell the crowd, a microphone and speakers making her voice loud. O'Brien soon walked over to plug in the cord, and applause from the crowd would surely be roared. The lights lit up the tree, the park and my face, proving once again why Flin Flon is such a special place.
