Youth across Canada will visit the hallways of Hapnot Collegiate, as CBC-TV will feature the institute in an after school program. A crew from The X, which airs Monday to Thursday, recently spent two days taping student interviews and activities to give viewers an insight into life at the high school. "I think it's really got our students excited," said principal John Clark. "I think that our students have experiences to share with other youth across the country, so I think it's a very positive thing." The TV crew was at the school on January 23 and 26 for an upcoming segment on The X. No air date for the piece has been finalized. "Basically what they were trying to do was interview students and attempt to share with other youth across Canada the aspects of Hapnot and Flin Flon that are unique to our school and our city," commented Clark. Some might expect high schoolers to be a little shy about appearing on nationwide television, but that wasn't the case at Hapnot. "I think the students were pretty excited about it. I didn't hear from them that they were shy," smiled Clark. Clark said The X crew was so impressed with Hapnot that they taped a lot more footage than they had planned. "They were impressed with the students. The students were very receptive to them, and friendly," said the principal. This won't be the first time Hapnot will be the focus of a CBC segment. In the early 1990s, students on the school's bandy (a cross between soccer and hockey) team were interviewed on a noonhour news program by host Ralph Benmergui. The students competed in Minneapolis and Moscow, and three Hapnot students played on Canada's national high school bandy team. While in Flin Flon last month, The X crew also taped a segment with the Nemihitowok Hoop Troop at the Friendship Centre.
