Flin Flon’s Collette McKeen and Cranberry Portage’s Frank Michell each received a standing ovation during a fundraiser last weekend that raised more than $2,500 for Habitat 53º.

Saturday’s performance had McKeen, who is preparing to play Eponine in the Flin Flon community choir’s upcoming production of Les Misérables, opening the show at St. Anne’s Church.

“The audience…loved it,” said Habitat 53º chair Kathy McCormick. “The talent and performers from our communities is always amazing to me. We see them up on the stage giving [it] their all, and are truly satisfied with the performances they can do.”

Michell went on to belt out tunes from Hank Snow, Alan Jackson, Dwight Yokum and Johnnie Reid, to name a few, where audience members continued to show their support.

The weekend concert brought in $2,585 to be put towards the build of the Habitat home.

McCormick says she’s “looking forward to finding more talent to showcase at future Habitat 53º venues.”

Lois (Bunny) Burke spoke to the audience of the criteria to become a Habitat family.
