Jonathon Naylor Editor Until recently taking over as manager of the local RBC branch, Mike Yarowy had only spent 11 months of his life in Flin Flon. Nonetheless, he believes his transfer from Winkler to the City Built on Rock has brought him back where he belongs. 'It feels like coming home,' said Yarowy, who took over as branch manager on April 16. Yarowy began his career with RBC at the Flin Flon branch in 1989, remaining for just under a year. Having first arrived as a young single man of 27, he returns with a wife, Sharon, and four children _ ranging from ages three to 14 _ in tow. Originally from Swan River, Yarowy is hoping for a much lengthier stay this time around. 'I basically have probably another 15 years left in my banking career before retirement, and I'd love to finish out my career here in Flin Flon,' he said. 'From what I've seen here and knowing the community, I think this would be a great place to retire.' After leaving Flin Flon more than two decades ago, Yarowy spent time with RBC branches in the Manitoba communities of Churchill and Souris. After that he decided to go back to school and earned his Master's in counselling from Providence College and Theological Seminary in Otterburne, Manitoba. Bible camps He directed a couple of summer Bible camps in Manitoba and Ontario before returning to the banking fold in 1998, this time at a branch in Iqaluit, Nunavut. Up next were stops in Winkler, then Shaunavon, Saskatchewan, and then back to Winkler for nearly eight years. Banking has offered Yarowy a rewarding, unpredictable career. 'Certainly it's the client interaction,' he said when asked what he likes about his job. 'It's also working with staff, leading a team of people to provide financial advice to customers. Banking is always changing and you never know what the next day will entail, but probably the most satisfying thing would be helping people achieve their financial goals.' In Flin Flon Yarowy oversees a staff of about 13 people. He is also the head of RBC branches in Snow Lake and The Pas.
