A nighttime cruise down Main Street may soon become much smoother. The City of Flin Flon will contact the province to request that the traffic lights on Main Street flash yellow between the hours of 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., seven days a week. The flashing lights would serve as yield signs, minimizing interruptions in the traffic flow during non-business hours. The City's request will also call for the lights on the side streets along Main Street to flash red, acting as stop signs, during the set time frame. A similar setup exists in a number of cities to reflect the smaller amount of traffic at night. City council on Tuesday unanimously passed a motion authorizing Director of Works and Operations Kevin Komarnicki to direct the request to the Manitoba Department of Transportation and Government Services. "It makes for smoother traffic," said Councillor Tom Therien. Municipal Administrator Larry Fancy wasn't sure of the timeline but said he expects the province will approve the request.
