KFC Canada has named Joan Fairnie of Calgary, Alberta Canada's Greatest Mom for the year 2005! Nominated by her 15-year-old daughter Lizzy, she won the Greatest Canadian Mom contest grand prize of $10,000 in travel vouchers and traveller's cheques. "My mom has stayed home to look after me and my sister for 12 years," Lizzy wrote in her entry. "She recently went back to work to help children with learning disabilities. Her current job is teaching English to immigrant students... After work, she comes home and cooks and cleans. Then she always helps me with my homework. She is very supportive. I'm very involved with sports, and she has never missed a game!" "My Mom is my idol and I think that she really deserves a break from her busy life," Lizzy continued. "She is the best person I've ever met. She is so generous, caring and unselfish." "I am still overwhelmed that Lizzy would do something like this for me," said Joan Fairnie, who will take her family to Mexico for her dream vacation. Lizzy's was among more than 3,000 entries that KFC Canada received in its Greatest Canadian Mom contest, launched April 22, 2005.2/6/05
