Flin Flonners head to the polls today to elect a mayor and city council.
Polls are open from 8 am to 8 pm. Voters will cast ballots at one of two locations: the RH Channing Auditorium in the Flin Flon Community Centre (2 North Avenue) and Northminster Memorial United Church (250 Bracken Street).
Polls 1 to 6 are located at the RH Channing Auditorium. They cover the area of Flin Flon located west of the train tracks (including uptown) and the area east of the train tracks but on the south side of Highway 10A (including Channing and the section of Green Street from Kin Park southwards toward Channing).
Polls 7 to 11 are at the Northminster Memorial United Church. They cover the area located east of the train tracks and on the north side of Highway 10A (including Centre Street, Parkway Boulevard and the section of Green Street from Northland Ford northward toward the Perimeter Highway).
Bring ID
Election officials recommend all voters bring one form of photo ID or two forms of non-photo ID. They may also be required to swear an oath.
That said, it is not expected that such forms of identification will be required in most cases. Residents who have long been at their current address should be on the present voter list.
To be eligible to vote, a resident must be a Canadian citizen and at least 18 years of age. He or she must have been a resident of Flin Flon, or owned property in Flin Flon, for at least six months prior to today.
Residents who rent rather than own their residence may vote, provided they have lived in Flin Flon at least six months.
A mobile poll will today make its way to the Northern Lights Manor, Personal Care Home, Rotary Court, Hemlock apartments and Jubilee Residence to allow elderly residents to cast ballots with ease.
Voters with questions are asked to visit either polling station to speak with an election official, or phone city hall at 204-681-7511.
Flin Flonners will choose from three candidates for mayor and seven candidates for the six-seat city council. There is no election for school board since all candidates have been acclaimed.
The Reminder will have full coverage of the election on Friday.
