Jonathon Naylor Editor Sandy Blue has decided he has banked enough time in Flin Flon. The manager of the local RBC Royal Bank branch will transfer to Beausejour in southern Manitoba at the end of the month. 'It's just closer to home for my wife (Lynn) and I,' says Blue, who was born and raised in Winnipeg. 'We have a lot of family in Winnipeg.' Blue moved to Flin Flon in May 2005 to become the small business account manager at CIBC. In November 2006 he moved across the street to become branch manager at RBC. It's the same position he will hold at the RBC branch in Beausejour. Rural setting While he's from the city, the cordial Blue had no problems adjusting to the rural setting of Flin Flon and all it has to offer. 'I'll definitely miss going to the Bomber games,' he says. 'Ice fishing is a lot of fun in the wintertime, fishing in the summertime, of course. It's just a good place to live. The people, I found, are mostly friendly and I've enjoyed working with the people here in the bank, too.' While he has spent 35 years in banking, Blue was initially looking at studying city planning when he enrolled at the University of Winnipeg after high school. He fell shy of graduating, however, and took his first job in banking at the Bank of Montreal in Winnipeg, employed in the credit card division. Blue and his family later moved to Alberta before coming to Flin Flon. 'The thing I enjoy most about (my career) is the interaction with your clients,' he says. 'That's the big part of it, and every day there's something different. You're never doing the same thing day after day. 'It's really a lot of fun. You're helping people out with a lot of their needs in life.' Blue's final day at the bank will be March 30. He takes over in Beausejour on April 2. His replacement will be Michael Yarowy from Winkler, Man., who is scheduled to start April 16.
