Some 100 residents have been sent notices stating that a lean will be placed against their vehicle if they don't pay off their municipal parking fines. It's part of the City of Flin Flon's crackdown on $143,000 in outstanding tickets dating as far back as 1990. The City has already placed two leans against vehicles, meaning the owners have been given 15 days to clear up their fines or face the possibility of their vehicle being seized. Since March 16, when The Reminder first reported on the City's clampdown, about 14 residents have stopped by City Hall to pay off tickets totaling about $1,800. "It's not as much as we had hoped, but it's a start," said By-law Enforcement Officer Darren Romo. The outstanding fines were issued between 1990 and 2002 for traffic violations such as parking with an expired meter and in no-parking areas. Many people owe as little as $20, but some owe much more. One unlucky person has $3,500 in outstanding tickets. Romo hopes to contact all people who owe fines by the end of April. A challenge Romo faces is tracking down the roughly 10 per cent of recipients who have since left the community. He said one option for those individuals would be to utilize a collection agency or contact family members.
