RCMP arrested three men near Pelican Narrows on drug and firearm charges last month.

A vehicle was stopped on Highway 135 south of Pelican Narrows by the RCMP Combined Traffic Services Section on Dec. 18. Five people were inside the vehicle, with the driver and passenger saying they were giving three passengers a ride to Sandy Bay. RCMP searched the vehicle, finding a loaded handgun, stolen identification, a large amount of cash and contraband substances believed by officers to be marijuana and both powder and crack cocaine.

Three men, two 21-year-olds and a 24-year-old were arrested and face charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine, careless use of a firearm, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public, unauthorized possession of a firearm and possession of a loaded restricted firearm.

One of the 21-year-olds was also charged with failing to comply with terms of probation, including an order prohibiting him from having firearms.

All three were scheduled to make their first court appearance in Sandy Bay on Dec. 20.
