Students traded their pencils and notebooks for work gloves and garbage bags on Wednesday to help clean up the area for Earth Day.

Creighton Community School students picked up garbage from around town and rocks from the school field to protect athletes and lawn care equipment.

Elementary students stayed close to the school while the older students cleaned up sections of the walking path connecting Creighton and Flin Flon.

Across the border, École McIsaac School students cleaned up their schoolyard and held a recycled book drive, giving students the chance to read a new book without having to purchase one.

Picking up garbage is a big part of Earth Day, but fumes from vehicles’ exhaust leave a footprint behind, too.

Students and staff were encouraged to find a different means of transportation to school and work, aside from taking the bus or a car.

McIsaac principal Steve Lytwyn suggested students and staff walk or ride a bike on Wednesday.
