Submitted by Flin Flon, Creighton and Area SPCA The season of goodwill and making wishes come true is upon us. The highest priority for those working at our local shelter is to find caring homes for those dogs and cats we have under our care. Each pet is special to us, coming with their own very unique personalities and special ways. We know them all so well, and our greatest wish is to see them happy. As the year 2012 comes to an end, we have decided to offer all our adult cats for the special price of $20.12. This price is in effect until Dec. 31 and includes the cost of the spay or neuter, vaccination and deworming as well as microchipping. At this cost the SPCA is basically absorbing all expenses _ our Christmas gift to the lucky people who take home one of our cuddly cats. Formal adoption application forms must be filled out, and we do not adopt cats (or dogs) as gifts. To promote our 'Home for the Holidays' program we are holding an open house on Saturday, Dec. 15 from 1-4 p.m. All are welcome to come and visit with the dogs and cats. If you haven't toured our new facility yet, then this is your chance. We are happy to have visitors and give guided tours of our shelter. The SPCA is currently housing a high number of young dogs around four months of age. It would be great to see these puppies get a home for Christmas. Come down and meet with Sookie, Bailey, Jagger, and Lily. We also have dogs over a year that are very nice _ they need and deserve a second chance. We are receiving reports of feral cats and kittens on a regular basis. Our feral kitten 'Jude' will soon be ready for adoption. With his blue eyes and cream coloured coat, he is a real cutie. If feral kittens are caught early enough they make great pets, and the SPCA is working with several members of the public to bring in as many as we can. It is far too cold outside for any kitten or cat to be out. One of our main missions is to educate and promote the benefits of spaying and neutering your cats and dogs. If more people spayed and neutered their pets, there wouldn't be a feral cat problem in our area or four orphan puppies waiting for a home at our shelter. The nicest thing you can do for your pet _ and us _ is to book your pet's surgery today. 'Home for the Holidays' is a nationwide program that runs throughout the Christmas season which has proven to be very successful. We are happy to be promoting this program and hope to see you on the 15th, or before. By adopting a rescue dog or cat, you are really saving two lives: the one you take home and the one out on the streets that we then have room for. Please support your local Flin Flon, Creighton and Area SPCA.
