An armed male robbed the Royal Hotel over the weekend, just one day after an unknown thief made off with about $2,000 from the Prospector Inn.
Flin Flon RCMP report that shortly before midnight last Friday, Nov. 14, an unidentified male entered the front entrance of the Royal Hotel and approached the night clerk with a weapon.
The male demanded and received money before fleeing into the back alley. The clerk was not injured. Police did not disclose how much money was stolen or the type of weapon involved.
RCMP described the male as standing 5’5” to 5’6” and wearing a hooded sweater and a black bandana. The incident was captured on video surveillance.
The robbery came a day after a thief targeted the Prospector Inn across the border in Creighton, also shortly before midnight.
In that incident, Creighton RCMP said a clerk left the front desk to collect money from VLTs at the motel and lounge.
The clerk had locked the front and rear doors, police said, but that didn’t stop someone from smashing through the small fire window on the rear door to gain entry.
The clerk was away for about 15 minutes. Upon her return, she noticed the smashed door and called 911.
In the clerk’s absence, a safe had been left unlocked and about $2,000 in cash removed.
No footage
Police said the motel’s video surveillance system was down at the time, so just as there are no known witnesses, there is no footage of the theft.
The only lead as of Monday evening was the account of an employee who apparently saw an unoccupied pickup truck idling near the motel.
Police still needed to speak to the employee to get more details, as it was not clear whether the truck was part of the theft.
Based on outside footprints found at the scene, police said it does appear that the thief had a getaway vehicle.
