Kelly Carrington Staff Writer Four local ladies have been recognized with Women of Honour Awards in celebration of International Women's Day. The ceremony was held at the R.H. Channing Auditorium on March 8 with a luncheon catering to nearly 60 women. Six women were nominated in four categories by peers and coworkers. The following are the award recipients and nominees complete with biographies submitted with their nominations. Neighbourhood Legend Award - Anne Goodman If you ever need a favour, Anne will do what she can to help. Her immediate concerns are to help all her friends...regardless of who and where they are from. She volunteers at Freedom's Way and for the Salvation Army. She has integrity and is the most honest woman I know. She is one who is rarely noticed and or recognized for her deeds. I hope she is honoured for all the unseen help she has freely provided. Lifetime Achievement Award -Eleanor Hayes Eleanor is best known for her character traits of loyalty, caring commitment, generosity and being truly supportive in her caring and giving to others. She supports, empowers and protects neighbours, friends and others by offering a helping hand when life has dealt a blow to them like a serious injury, illness or death of a family member. She loves to cook, bake and sew and donates food and blankets she has sewn to those in need. Her accumulated hours over the many years of volunteer work for the community is outstanding. Eleanor Hayes should be recognized as a woman of honour because communities are built and continue to grow around the skills, talents, and abilities she brings with her as she serves others. Professional Innovation Award - Mary (Biz) Fullerton Biz worked for the Frontier School Division for over 22 years and we were very sad to see her go. She was a strong supervisor and always helped out. Despite being in a position of authority with the residence counselors, they respected and always felt they could go to her with issues. It was a blessing to have Biz as a boss and I learned how to be a better counselor because of her. See'Commu...' on pg. 6 Continued from pg. 3 She was also very good with students, the way she spoke to them, you can tell she was sincere and had a big heart. Her office was always full of students and they always had nice things to say about her. Biz is missed my all of us. Community Legacy Award - Catherine Hynes For approximately 30 years Catherine Hynes has helped our community by volunteering her time and effort in numerous committees and organizations. She is currently involved with the Flin Flon-Creighton Relay for Life, the Rotary Club of Flin Flon, Operation Red Nose, Flin Flon Inner Wheel, Flin Flon and District Chamber of Commerce, Flinty Committee, Flin Flon Ducks Unlimited and many more. Catherine is also employed full-time, where she sits on numerous local and provincial committees. Anyone who gives so much of themselves loves their community and wants only the best for the people who live in it. Professional Innovation Award nominee - Karen MacKinnon Karen's great attitude toward life and welcoming personality inspires everyone around her. In her employment at The Reminder and Cottage North, she has put together a number of initiatives, including Complete Makeover Body and Soul, Cutest Pet Contest, The Reminder Christmas edition and many more. Karen's networking skills, joyful energy and smiling face make her a pleasure to do business with for the many community contacts she meets with each day. In 2006, Karen was first elected to city council is now serving a second term. Through her work with city council, Karen has involvement with many committees. Karen's love of her community is always evident. Community Legacy Award nominee - Colleen McKee Colleen has been a pillar in the community for her many years volunteer work. Her bubbly, happy disposition and a positive attitude have certainly been a plus that those around her can attest to.
