Flin Flon Superintendent of Schools Blaine Veitch is calling it a career.

Veitch will retire from the Flin Flon School Division effective July 31 following a 35-year career in education, including the past 14 years as superintendent.

“I think it’s the right time for me and it’s the right time for the division,” said Veitch, 56. “I’m at an age where it’s possible to do and there’s other things I want to do. I want to spend some time with my family and my grandchild, and I want to be able to take part in more recreational activities and volunteer in the community, and do some travelling.”

Veitch succeeded the retiring Dan Reagan as superintendent in 2002. Prior to that, he spent time as assistant superintendent, a guidance counsellor and a teacher.

There’s no word yet on Veitch’s successor. The Reminder will have more on this story in our print edition this Wednesday, Jan. 20.
