On September 19 The Pas RCMP and The Pas RCMP General Investigation Section, with assistance from Thompson RCMP Police Dog Services, dismantled a 247-plant marijuana grow operation near the community of Cormorant, a settlement located approximately 80 kilometres northeast of The Pas. The location of the marijuana grow operation was found to be on Crown land. The seizure was the culmination of an investigation that began in August of 2013. Theodore (Ted) Ducharme, 48, from the Rural Municipality of La Broquerie was arrested on scene and has been charged with one count of production of marijuana and one count of possessing marijuana for the purpose of trafficking. Ducharme was later released on his own recognizance with a court appearance set for December 2, 2013, in The Pas Provincial Court. As a result of the investigation, search warrants were subsequently executed at residences in the community of Cormorant and the RM of La Broquerie, near Steinbach. A 46-year-old female was arrested at the residence in Cormorant and was found to be in possession of a quantity of marijuana. The female was later released on a Promise to Appear with charges pending for possessing a controlled substance. She is scheduled to appear in The Pas Provincial Court on December 2, 2013. One firearm was seized from the residence in Cormorant while two firearms were seized from the residence in the RM of La Broquerie. The investigation is continuing. Anyone with information regarding drug trafficking is asked to call their local police agency or RCMP Detachment.
