The Pas RCMP have charged a KFC employee and her friend with staging an armed robbery that allegedly netted the teenage girls over $1,000 in cash. Police identified the suspects after reviewing surveillance footage from the day of last week's robbery in which a girl with a bandana-cloaked face robbed the restaurant at gun point. A 14-year-old employee who was behind the counter faces charges of conspiracy to commit robbery, public mischief and theft. Her 15-year-old friend was charged with conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery with a firearm after she allegedly pointed a handgun at her friend and two other employees, demanding they place money in a bag. The handgun used has been recovered, but police say the girls spent money from the robbery on marijuana. Police said the girls told them the incident was "supposed to be a joke," but given the severity of the matter, Cpl. Pat Olson isn't laughing. "It's sad to see how far two young girls will go to commit such a serious crime," he said, "and now they have to face the consequences." Cpl. Olson said police identified the suspects after they viewed video surveillance from the day of the crime and "determined a number of things had happened." The robbery took place a week ago, March 9, shortly before 11 p.m. at the KFC location on Gordon Ave. Cpl. Olson said adults guilty of this crime would receive mandatory penitentiary sentences, with at least a year added on because a firearm was involved.
