The mayor of The Pas has called for zero tolerance when it comes to youths who violate the town's curfew by-law. The by-law, implemented in 1997, requires youths under the age of 17 to be indoors by 1 a.m. Mayor Gary Hopper told CBC that he believes unsupervised youths are behind an increase in vandalism and violence. "A young fellow that was in here from Wabowden. . . he got beat up. He ended up going home, and that's not the message we want to send out," he told CBC. Four youths were recently charged under the by-law, which carries a fine of $50.
