Talk about a win-win. This past weekend, Northland Ford showcased its quality vehicles while supporting one of Flin Flon's most popular parks. The Drive 4UR Community event raised more than $3,000 for upgrades to Kin Park. 'We had an excellent turnout and it was a good partnership,' said Jill Rideout, vice-president of the Kinette Club, which oversees the park along with the Kinsman Club. Held at the Victoria Inn parking lot on Saturday, Sept. 14, the event saw Ford donate $20 every time someone took a vehicle for a test drive. 'We've had great community support for every event we've had,' said Nikki McConnell, sales consultant with Northland Ford. Drive One 4UR Community allowed Northland Ford to showcase almost every model in the Ford lineup. Those taking a test drive filled out registration forms at a table overseen by Kinette members. Beside them, Kinsmen members held a hot dog and pop sale to raise money to battle cystic fibrosis, the national charity of the Kinsmen and Kinettes. In terms of Kin Park, club members have discussed the possibility of removing, for safety reasons, the long-defunct wading pool at the top of the hill, among other improvements. Northland Ford hosts Drive One 4UR Community once a year. The same goes for the dealership's Drive One 4UR School, which has so far benefitted Hapnot Collegiate and Many Faces Education Centre. Kin Park is one of the busiest parks in Flin Flon and area, particularly during the winter when children take advantage of its long, steep sliding hill. The park also hosts events such as the Kinettes' Family Dance, now a familiar part of the annual Trout Festival celebrations.
