Ten cottage lots in the Flin Flon region are up for grabs as part of a provincial lottery for coveted lakefront property. Eight lots on Lake Athapapuskow, one on Big Island Lake and another at Millwater are among the 205 parcels of land the Manitoba government has now made available. "Real estate figures show that this province has the highest per capita ownership of summer cottages and vacation homes in the world," said Conservation Minister Stan Struthers in a press statement. "Opening these new properties to public use will generate economic activity and continue to promote Manitoba's image as an affordable recreation destination." Interested Manitobans have until Oct. 22 to enter the lot draw, which will be held Nov. 2 in The Pas. In the local area, the available property includes three newly developed lots in the northwest region of Lake Athapapuskow, in the Boathouse Bay Subdivision A, for $28,000 each. Five additional lots, also newly developed, are available on Lake Athapapuskow in the Sally Road Subdivision. Four of the lots cost $24,000, the fifth $35,000. One lot is also for sale at both Big Island Lake (northwest region) and Millwater (on Lake Athapap) for $5,000. With the exception of the Millwater property, each of these lots has road and hydro access. The Millwater and Big Island lots are the only ones that are not lakefront property. "We all know autumn in Manitoba can be quite unpredictable," said Struthers in his statement, "so to ensure that Manitobans have ample opportunity to assess their chosen site and survey other potential sites, I strongly encourage everyone to go out as soon as possible to visit the cottage lot site that is of interest to them." This will be the second provincial lot draw this year. The first, held in the spring, offered 375 lots, 206 of which were claimed. Applicants who were not selected in the spring draw are welcome to reapply this time around. Anyone interested doing so may phone 1-800-214-6497 or log onto www.gov.mb.ca/conservation/cottaging. The web site also includes maps showing the specific location of each lot.
